This vernacular, adobe home in north central Marfa underwent an extensive, considered, renovation and was transformed into an ideal high desert property. Located just a few blocks from the gates of historic Mimms Ranch, the location in the Kerr Addition is convenient and quiet.

The 1935 main adobe home was stripped down to the bricks, and the floor plan reconfigured into a welcoming, split, linear arrangement. Along the north side of the home the dining, kitchen, and living room with gas fireplace flow together under the vaulted ceiling with exposed wood beams. The kitchen has high end appliances, custom wood cabinetry, quartz counters and is conveniently located in the center of the space, across from a utility closet with washer and dryer, elegantly disguised by sliding doors. Two nicely proportioned guest suites occupy the southern portion of the home, each having wood ceilings and their own minimalist, welcoming, one with a soaking tub/shower and the other with a large walk-in shower. Carefully placed and sized fenestrations allow for a comfortable amount of natural light year round which reflects off the plaster walls.

Outside across the xeriscaped back yard full of thoughtfully selected native plants, the guest casita built in 2019 has large sliding glass doors and a half bath that was built to accommodate a future shower. The casita has its own ductless HVAC and access from a side yard, working equally well as a studio. An outdoor antique cast-iron tub abuts a former barn that can be used as a single car garage or generous storage room.

The adobe walls, plaster finishes, wood floors, metal roof and tankless water heaters make this home not only comfortable but also efficient and easier to maintain.
