The Convent of São Saturnino, dating back to the 14th century, is a treasure located in a valley in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park nature reserve, next to the sea. Restored at the beginning of this century, the Convent is an architectural complex characterized by a labyrinthine design of houses, nooks, terraces, viewpoints, with gardens on various levels, always with incredible views of the mountains and the sea. The site is said to have been a place of worship to São Saturnino, which gave rise to the name of the Convent, and a chapel in Peninha, located at the top of the Sintra mountains, about an hour's walk away. It was rehabilitated in 1989, requiring new restoration work throughout the convent. Being in the Convent is as if time had stopped, breathing history in every corner, surrounded by greenery and with the sea on the horizon. The interior of the Convent is a constant surprise: we find countless small rooms, nooks, unlikely staircases, coffered ceilings, rooms between corridors, all different, full of character and charm.
