S ome evenings a cruise ship moves through the Corfu Channel so slowly it seems to be standing still, its lights doubling in the water below while a sailing boat crosses ahead of it, indifferent to the scale. From the pool terrace at Galini, high above Avlaki, all of this is simply what happens outside — the channel is the view, the channel is the foreground, and on a still evening with a glass in hand and the opposite coast beginning to light up in the dark, it is difficult to think of anywhere else one would rather be.
The house is set on a hillside plot of 4,000 sqm on the north-east coast of Corfu, its levels stepping down toward the sea through walled and planted terraces, all oriented east toward the channel. The pool and its broad teak deck sit at the lowest outdoor level, the glass balustrade at the seaward edge uninterrupted from the lounger to the open water.
The entrance hall opens at ground level onto a wide corridor — large-format tile underfoot, a glass-sided staircase rising through the full height of the house, original canvases on white walls. The staircase climbs to the principal living floor, where kitchen, dining, and sitting rooms are arranged in sequence across the seaward face, connected by sliding doors that retract entirely in summer. The dining room seats ten at a solid oak table beneath a retractable shade sail; the pool and the full reach of the channel are visible through the glass wall behind it. The kitchen runs along the inland side, white-fronted with stone worktops and a long peninsula bar.
Six ensuite bedrooms occupy the upper floors, each with a sliding door onto its own sea-facing balcony. The principal suite is the largest: a separate seating area with full-width glazing onto the channel, and a bathroom clad throughout in white marble tile with twin vessel basins and an open walk-in shower. The remaining five bedrooms are distributed across two further levels, each with a private balcony; from the topmost rooms the water is visible in three directions, the far headlands receding into the morning haze.
Outside, the pool terrace is the seaward heart of the property — a teak deck alongside a lit rectangular pool, a glass balustrade, and the channel beyond. A covered outdoor dining pavilion with a built-in grill sits to one side; on the other, a lounge area is set against a rendered garden wall planted with bougainvillea and oleander. The whole plot is walled and gated, the garden in two terraced levels below the pool deck, stone steps connecting them.
In the early morning, the sun comes up over the channel — low and direct, reaching the teak deck before it reaches the hillside behind the house. The ferries are already moving.
Avlaki beach is 400 metres on foot. Kassiopi harbour and its waterfront tavernas are a short drive. Corfu Town and the international airport are approximately 30 minutes by road. Eligible for the Greek Golden Visa and the Non-Dom Programme.
