But with interest rates rising and the secondary home market slowing down, the timing may finally be right for buyers who have been playing the long game. The biggest challenge is finding a property with year-round use that caters to both relaxation and adventure-seeking. \u201cIt\u2019s all about lifestyle,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/herbert-ratsch\/\">Herb Ratsch, a broker with Sotheby\u2019s International Realty Canada<\/a>. \u201cNobody needs a [vacation] home. It\u2019s a luxury, and it has to match your lifestyle expectations.\u201d Many are finding their dream property in regions such as Ontario cottage country, Mont-Tremblant, Canmore and Kelowna, all of which offer breathtaking beauty and all-season activities for every family.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"image_block_single\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/insightblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/1250-Waldmere-Road-Bracebridge-ON-sothebys-international-realty-canada.jpg\" alt=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/property\/ontario\/region-muskoka\/bracebridge-real-estate\/866103\/\" target=\"_blank\">1250 Waldmere Road, Bracebridge, ON<\/a><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Muskoka, Ontario<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/coxworth-and-associates\/#about-bryan-coxworth\">Bryan Coxworth, a Sotheby\u2019s International Realty Canada broker<\/a>, buyers in <a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/search-results\/region-muskoka-province-ontario-real-estate\/\">Muskoka<\/a> look for a home with year-round road access and a quality waterfront for boating, waterskiing, fishing and canoeing. \u201cPeople are drawn more to nice, deep, clean water, where they\u2019d be able to bring their boat into a dock with no problem,\u201d he says of the lakefront appeal of Muskoka\u2019s big three lakes, Muskoka, Rosseau and Joseph. Naturally, properties with western exposure offer views you can\u2019t get in the city. \u201cPeople always like that sunset,\u201d says Coxworth. Those looking for more remote seclusion seek out a cottage in the water-based communities of Georgian Bay that are only reachable by boat. Properties near the Lake of Bays, Parry Sound and Simcoe County offer suburban conveniences as well as the tranquil charms of cottage life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mont-Tremblant, Quebec<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ratsch has been doing his part to show Quebec buyers that <a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/search-results\/city-mont-tremblant-province-quebec-real-estate\/\">Mont-Tremblant<\/a> is not only eastern Canada\u2019s premier ski destination, but a year-round community complete with world-class golf courses, restaurants, shops and even a racetrack. \u201cThe beauty of Tremblant is that it\u2019s a four season destination,\u201d he says. Ratsch notes the range of seasonal activities \u2014 from skiing and thermal spas in the winter to boating and mountain biking in the summer \u2014 as a key factor in buyers choosing to purchase a vacation property in Tremblant over \u201cone-dimensional\u201d resorts with little to do once the chairlifts close for the season. The variety of properties, such as lakeside homes to townhouses with ski-in ski-out access to condos on the mountain, also appeals to different lifestyles. \u201cTremblant means a lot of different things to a lot of different people,\u201d says Ratsch.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"image_block_single\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/insightblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/112-Dyrgas-Gate-Canmore-AB-sothebys-international-realty-canada.jpg\" alt=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/property\/alberta\/region-canmore-banff\/canmore-real-estate\/954258\/\" target=\"_blank\">112 Dyrgas Gate, Canmore, AB<\/a><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Canmore, Alberta<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/search-results\/city-canmore-province-alberta-real-estate\/\">Canmore<\/a> is bordered entirely by national parks, in close proximity to four of Canada\u2019s biggest ski resorts and only a 70-minute drive to Calgary International Airport. \u201cIt\u2019s super well connected,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/sothebysrealty.ca\/en\/vincent-and-wright-group\/#about-christopher-vincent\">Christopher Vincent, a Senior Vice-President of Sales at Sotheby\u2019s International Realty Canada<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a four-lane highway, to and from the city and to the ski hills. So you\u2019re not dealing with [what] a lot of the mountain resort communities have, [like] going through single-lane highways that are a little more challenging to get to.\u201d A mild summer with low humidity in the Rockies means there are plenty of all-season activities, from snowboarding in the winter to hiking in the summer. But beyond its picturesque landscapes, airport access, a long ski season, low property taxes, no land transfer tax and no provincial sales tax are major selling points.
