Sarah and I had been looking for the right Toronto apartment for well over a year, and had been so discouraged that we had effectively given up. Good thing we gave it a last try, and that Trish was our agent. Trish understood our requirements, which were old-fashioned—solid walls, enough with the glass, with the condos that will be tomorrow’s ghettoes, and we like to walk and spend a good deal of time outside, please—and possibly unrealistically stringent. Trish understood, and was (not without a sense of humour) personable, unflappable, hard-working throughout—and within a few weeks, successful. We are now very contentedly in just the right place and, Trish offering sensible and prudent advice, also purchased very reasonably. Our demands (and possibly our eccentricities) were easily accepted, and what we particularly appreciated about having Trish on our side, was that there was never a no, and that digital was never a substitute for personal contact though it was most certainly a tool. The place we did buy, we acquired after Trish’s third and unaccompanied visit on the strength of her judgment—and iPhone. Such was our confidence in Trish’s knowledge and eye, that effectively we bought the apartment “unseen,” though not before she had taken the care to bring in a specialty contractor to assess the work she thought we might have to do.
