ABOUT THE BUILDING:
Located in the heart of Coal Harbour, the Qube Building at 1333 West Georgia Street is one of Vancouver’s most recognizable architectural landmarks. Originally constructed in 1969 as the headquarters for Westcoast Transmission Company, the building was far ahead of its time in both engineering and design.
What makes the Qube truly unique is its innovative “suspended” construction system. Rather than being built floor by floor from the ground up, the building’s central concrete core was completed first, and the floors were then hung from steel cables attached at the top — a revolutionary engineering concept inspired by suspension bridge technology. This design was created to improve seismic performance, making the structure one of the earliest earthquake-resistant high-rises in Vancouver.
The building’s striking cube-like appearance and modernist architecture earned it international recognition, including a Design in Steel Award from the American Iron and Steel Institute shortly after completion. In 1996, it was officially recognized as a heritage building due to its historical and architectural significance.
In 2005, the former office tower was transformed into luxury residential homes by Anthem Properties while carefully preserving its iconic structure and design. Today, the Qube features modern open-concept residences with higher-than-average ceilings, expansive windows, concrete construction, concierge service, multiple high-speed elevators, and a premier location steps from the Vancouver Seawall, Stanley Park, restaurants, cafés, and the downtown business district.
