Chester Township, New Jersey is a place you have to visit to believe it even exists. Most of the 30-square-mile township, which is located in Morris County, looks like it was plucked from the scene of a movie about a picturesque small town. Over 40 percent of the land is permanently protected from development, which means miles of beautiful countryside, farmland, and wooded areas are scattered throughout the community. There are only a handful of businesses in the township, so residents shop in nearby Chester Borough, which sits in the middle of the township. The historic area looks as if it is from a bygone era with its Victorian buildings, independent boutiques and restaurants, and quaint fixtures. A limited number of homes are built here each year.
So, what is it like to live in such a place? Almost any resident will tell you that it is better than you can imagine. The friendly township hosts community-oriented events throughout the year: the farmer's market, a township-wide yard sale, festivals, home tours, concerts in the park, craft fairs, and holiday celebrations to name a few.
Even though you will feel as if you stepped into another time and place here, Chester Township is just 50 miles from New York City, 40 miles from Newark, and less than 40 miles from the coast.

The area is also a popular place, due in part to the excellent schools. Students in Chester Township have the opportunity to attend West Morris Mendham High School, which is often ranked as one of the top high schools in the United States by publications like The Washington Post, Newsweek, and The Daily Beast . In 2014, New Jersey Monthly named it the fourth-best high school in the state.
