Property Description

Nestled in“Dogtown” Bolinas, one of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in California, is 5955 State Route One. Dogtown, originally named Woodville, sits within the Olema Valley which winds from the southern tip of the Bolinas lagoon North to Tomales Bay. The area has a rich history dating back to its early days during the California Gold Rush.

This pastoral four-acre generational property with a farmhouse, guest quarters, and horse arena is a few miles to the ocean shores and contiguous to the Point Reyes National Seashore, the Philip Burton Wilderness, and the traditional homelands of the Coast Miwok. Across the great Highway 1 is the Golden Gate National Park which includes Bolinas Ridge and its many trails and creeks.

This expansive land is a haven for wildlife, where you can often spot deer roaming freely and enjoy the delicate flutters of hummingbirds and butterflies. The Olema Valley is a flyway for many migratory birds. Anna’s Hummingbird is considered local and stays year-round within a few miles of the coast while Rufous and Allen’s Hummingbirds migrate through the valley.

Originally built in the early 1900s, the main house is characteristic of an architectural farmhouse style that has simple, symmetrical lines, high ceilings, and predominantly wood materials. It has a traditional pitched roof and a welcoming wraparound porch.

There are two wings to the floor plan. The northwest wing faces the beautiful Willow trees and north toward the Inverness Ridge. These rooms exude a warm, sunlit atmosphere, featuring three bedrooms and one bathroom.

The heart of the home is the kitchen, a gathering space offering a blend of comfort and functionality.

An additional family room is a transitional passageway between the two wings offering a second wood burning stove.

The southeast wing provides an additional bedroom, laundry room, bathroom, and spacious den that faces a sloping pasture and a lush landscape.

The private detached guest house features a separate bedroom, bathroom, loft, kitchenette, and deck. The surrounding view is timeless.

This beautiful four-acre property hosted decades of memories centered around a deep appreciation for West Marin equestrian living.

Outdoor spaces include a patio, a dedicated vegetable garden, and multiple outbuildings. The most significant being an impressive horse arena once used for roping and sheltering beloved horses.

Area Description

The string of coastal and agricultural communities within and around Bolinas, Muir Beach and Stinson Beach are encompassed by some of the most picturesque surroundings in Marin County. Muir Beach is a small town comprised of about 150 homes surrounded by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, diverse wildlife, and beautiful beaches. Stinson Beach includes over three miles of soft sand, parks, the Dipsea Trail, a town market, and a good selection of restaurants and shops. Bolinas is the oldest unincorporated coastal community in Marin County known for its secluded and private atmosphere. Separated from Stinson Beach by a small waterway which leads the ocean waters into the Bolinas Lagoon, the two towns band together for an annual tug-of-war contest across the channel. The Bolinas Lagoon is also a favorite spot for sea lions, otters, egrets, and other wildlife.

Residents and visitors of each of these cities enjoy breathtaking sunset vistas over the Pacific Ocean, along with surfing, fishing, hiking, exploring along the coast and Mount Tamalpais, and many more incredible outdoor activities. Only thirty five miles north of San Francisco, and in one of the most affluent counties in the nation, this region is close to major metropolitan areas yet is a sanctuary for those lucky enough to escape the stress of modern America.
