Built in 1921, and not offered for sale since 1946 – a substantial Arts and Crafts House, 23 Yates is a house steeped in history and presents a superb example of the architectural movement. Designed by Robert MacBeth, whose prior commissions included Skibo Castle for Andrew Carnegie, the house has an imposing and highly detailed fronted façade and, internally, classic proportions and symmetry, with generous rooms, original windows, fireplaces, and beamed ceilings. The kitchen is fitted with granite and mahogany floors, work surfaces of Corian, Snaidero cabinetry, a large dining area, and all filled with an abundance of natural light. The back staircase completes the linkage of the kitchen area with the bedrooms above and the laundry/work facility below. The galleried landing of the second floor accommodation provides four bedrooms (three with walk in closets), two bathrooms, and full stair access to the attic. The master bedroom includes a wood burning fireplace and three sides of windows. The gardens are mainly Pennsylvanian slate with an abundant array of established plants and shrubs that provide form and colour yet are anchored and enhanced by specimen trees.
