Property Description
Set within approximately 21,000 sqm of private grounds overlooking the eastern Peloponnese coastline, Aurelia is a late 19th century country residence that preserves the atmosphere, craftsmanship, and proportions of another era. Surrounded by olive groves, mature pines, and open countryside descending gently toward Ermioni Bay, the estate combines remarkable architectural character with complete privacy just moments from the sea.
Approached through landscaped grounds and sheltered by established trees, the residence immediately stands apart for its restrained symmetry and soft terracotta façade, framed by green shutters and marble detailing. Built as a summer residence for an aristocratic family, the house retains many of its original decorative elements, carefully preserved throughout the interiors.
Inside, the atmosphere is unmistakably historic yet deeply livable. Marble-clad reception halls, frescoed ceilings, hand-painted decorative motifs, and geometric tiled floors unfold from room to room with unusual continuity. Tall windows allow light to move softly through the interiors during the day, illuminating the original woodwork, antique furnishings, and high ceilings that define the principal living spaces.
The formal reception and dining rooms retain their period proportions, with marble fireplaces, painted ceilings, and family portraits that quietly reflect the history of the house without overwhelming it. The interiors feel calm rather than theatrical, shaped by craftsmanship, scale, and the patina of age accumulated over generations.
A sculptural circular timber staircase rises to the upper floor, where the bedrooms continue the same restrained elegance. Several rooms open toward terraces overlooking the estate grounds, the surrounding hillsides, and the waters of Ermioni Bay beyond. Morning light enters softly through the tall openings, while the elevated position allows natural airflow throughout the house during the warmer months.
Outdoors, the estate unfolds gradually through olive groves, fruit trees, stone pathways, and shaded sitting areas beneath mature pines. The covered terrace adjoining the house functions as a natural extension of the living spaces, particularly during the long Mediterranean evenings when the scent of warm earth and pine settles across the garden. Despite the scale of the grounds, the property feels intimate and protected, enclosed by substantial stone boundary walls that preserve both privacy and quiet.
The surrounding area remains one of the most understated coastal settings in the Peloponnese. Beaches and small coves are within easy reach, while Ermioni’s port provides direct access to Hydra and Spetses. The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus lies under an hour away, and Athens can be reached comfortably within approximately two hours by road.
Rarely do historic residences of this scale and authenticity remain so intact. Aurelia presents an opportunity to acquire a distinguished estate where architectural heritage, landscape, and coastal proximity remain in complete balance.

Porto Heli is a little known area to outsiders even though it’s just a couple of hours drive from Athens or a few hours by yacht. Exclusiveness is its hallmark and, although on first sight it looks just like any other small Greek coastal town, if you dig a little deeper you will discover that it is actually an area full of stately hillside mansions and very private beaches that usually come with their own super yacht jetties.
Known endearingly as the Riviera of the Peloponnese, it’s not difficult to understand why. The former King of Greece, Constantine II, has an impressive palm-shaded property there, with neighbours including Sean Connery, Roman Abramovic and several wealthy Greek magnates, amongst others. It’s stunning natural harbour and protected cove offers crystalline waters, lovely pine-clad hillsides and pretty fishing boat vistas. The small hamlets of Aghios Aimilianos, Ververontas and Costa are the privé playgrounds of the kind of mega rich who don’t need to draw attention to themselves. Luxury resorts sit in the wings, such as Amanzoe in Kranidi, a fabulous escape for jet setters seeking solace for all the senses, while the trendy Nikki Beach offers Miami style vacations to affluent European sun seekers with Mediterranean trimmings.
You can jump on a water taxi to the cosmopolitan island of Spetses which sits just opposite, and step back in time to the elegant past of the belle époque, with its horse-drawn carriages, captain’s mansions and French Riviera feel. Otherwise, speed over to the charismatic island of Hydra, where artists like Leonard Cohen found their creative juices running and so decided to take up permanent residence there! It’s all oh-so-Positano and the beauty of it is that you can zip from one stunning location to another and still be back home for dinner, whether that be a selection of the finest seafood on a waterfront taverna or a discreet dinner on your moored pleasure yacht.
