Each has its own bathroom. A secondary sitting room on the top floor, with floor cushions and a low walnut table, catches the early quiet before the rest of the house stirs.

In June, the bougainvillaea on the upper wall is still in full colour at eight in the evening, the lavender warm underfoot, the air off the water carrying just enough cool to make the heat of the stone feel good against the hand.
