Built between 1922 and 1923 by architect Eugen Schmohl — renowned for landmarks such as the Borsig Tower and the Ullsteinhaus — for the merchant Nathan Edelstein, Villa Edelstein ranks among the architectural jewels of Berlin-Zehlendorf.


Constructed in brick and distinguished by its intricately articulated, asymmetrical clinker façade, the villa stands apart from its neighboring properties and masterfully combines traditional architectural elements such as a hipped roof and shutters with a distinctive expressionist character.


Expressive ornamental details above the entrance allegorically reference trade and reflect the origins of the Edelstein merchant family. In 1933, the villa was converted into a multi-family residence, later transformed into office use around 1990, and ultimately restored in 2015 to its original residential purpose and character.


The enclosure of the front garden thoughtfully continues the material language and architectural principles of the building, completing the overall composition with remarkable harmony.

Originally conceived as a prestigious family home, the villa once again offers an unusually sophisticated spatial sequence today: towards the street lie the entrance hall, formal living room and former gentleman’s room, while the garden side accommodates the kitchen, pantry and a light-filled dining room with bay window.


The upper floor is dedicated to private and sleeping quarters, arranged around a central hallway. Here, two extraordinary bathrooms complement the residence with premium materials, finely coordinated color palettes and distinguished British bathroom interiors.
