Architectural Design:
“Little Wolf” is built from giant Western Red Cedar logs which show character and beauty. Every tree is a rare jewel of the forest and has been carefully harvested and selected. The design of Little Wolf Resort combines luxurious elegance and pure natural beauty. The marvelous entrance features three giant twisted Red Cedar trees. The trees were twisting, so that they were more stable against the wind. The fourth big tree of the entrance grew perfectly straight. It is called “The Big Carrot”. The big straight tree is considered to be the most valued kind of tree in the wood industry. Combining the three twisted trees with the big straight tree gave us the idea to call the combination “The Twisted Carrot Entrance”. Furthermore, the entrance features a twisted arch blending into the twisted look of the main supporting logs, holding a very special and unique, one-of-a-kind, mighty giant Red Cedar burl that is over 1000 years old. The mighty, naturally grown and over 1000-year-old giant Red Cedar burl is one of the principal design elements of “Little Wolf”. Burls are very rare to find. Specifically giant Red Cedar burls can grow to immense sizes. Burls can grow new trees, filled with small knots from dormant buds. The figured, dense and resistant wood-grain of these burls is highly prized for its beauty and rarity! Ornamental Yellow Cedar burls in the dormer gables, as well as a giant Red Cedar log above the balcony with multiple smaller burls are blending into the compilation. Two giant and very characteristic multi-coloured Red Cedar pillars in the entrance hall of “Little Wolf” are connecting the entrance hall with the big living room and are also supporting the upper living section. There one was combining dark Cedar trees in the upper loft with the two big giant bright Cedar pillars in the entrance hall as a huge bottom end, making it look as one big tree with multiple colourful variations of the wood being used in this compilation. The living room features a unique hanging truss with a hanging flared tree. Giant flared ends in the wall system of the living room are framing in the impressive medieval Burgundian stone castle fireplace from the 11th century. An impressive selection of flared ends supporting the upper living section is leading all the way from the bar area through the living room into the generous dining and buffet area. A white and blue Brazilian Azul granite slab with white quartz veins is reflecting the “Sacred Headwaters”, connected to a white quartz pebble river, running through the main hall of “Little Wolf”. “Little Wolf´s” main hall is a central gathering point for banquets, weddings and guest-activities. It features an entrance area, front desk and reception hall, a cozy living area with a medieval stone castle fireplace, the “Steamboat Anchor Bar”, a luxurious dining area with panoramic windows and a spectacular view over the surrounding snow-covered mountains, including two separate buffet sections, as well as multiple outside sitting and outside dining areas. A huge, forked owl tree with a formerly abandoned owl´s nest within the top end of the tree, including a real looking owl carving, is supporting the staircase to the upper living section. With its branches leading all over the staircase it feels like walking through the rainforest. The figure-wood and the woodgrain used for the design of “Little Wolf” is very special and unique. Every section of the building is featuring characteristic Red Cedar posts, a Giant Red Cedar burl, as well as ornamental Yellow Cedar burl king posts in the dormer gables and Yellow Bamboo Cedar roof rafters all over the building. A breezeway with a giant port cochere consisting of several characteristic burl posts and an eagle head carving in the gable is leading to the guesthouse and to the riverfront of “Little Wolf”. The guesthouse is featuring solid log walls, a variation of flared ends, a giant deck around the building and a balcony system, as well as a unique forked king post with a real looking wooden eagle carving on top.
As we stand in front of “Little Wolf” and are taking a look at the marvelous entrance, compiled out of burls and mighty twisted logs, we are realizing their character, as a creation of extraordinary beauty.
