Area Description

Comprised of seventeen inland neighbourhoods in the western half of the municipality of Saanich, this area is semi-rural with an abundance of natural parks and leisure opportunities. The southern tip of the area borders the Gorge Waterway, while the northern end stretches into the farmland surrounding Elk and Prospect lake.

Saanich boasts more parks within it limits than any other municipality in British Columbia. Elk and Beaver lake are two popular destinations in the community. These large freshwater lakes are ideal for an enjoyable picnic, swim, canoe, or hike through the surrounding trails. The Gorge Waterway to the south affords residents a peaceful place to enjoy the water closer to the inner city.

Saanich is also home to world class golf courses such as Cedar Hill Golf Course and Cordova Bay Golf Course. Open year-round, they are a destination for many Canadian golfers.

Tillicum, Uptown, and Country shopping centres are all located in Saanich West, with Tillicum hosting the Imax-equipped Silvercity movie theatre. Saanich west residents also enjoy easy access to the Victoria International Airport and BC Ferries terminals to the north via the Patricia Bay Highway #17, as well as to Victoria General Hospital to the north-west.

Come winter, cars loaded with kayaks, surfboards, paddle boards, skis, and snowboards come out to play, while golfers teeing off, and joggers taking to the trails remain common sights. Whatever the season, there’s plenty to enjoy on Vancouver Island.
