Georgian Bay Real Estate

Details

With over 2,000 km of shoreline covering 15,000 square km, Georgian Bay is about 80 per cent of the size of Lake Ontario and is often referred to as the sixth Great Lake.

Georgian Bay is famous for its over 30,000 islands, many of which are park reserve lands or privately owned and used as cottage properties; others are completely uninhabited. With countless beaches and places to drop a boat anchor, Georgian Bay is a boater’s paradise, and a haven for families who enjoy cottage life.

Europeans first explored the area in 1610, but Aboriginal settlement in the area can be traced back over 11,000 years. With its countless islands, majestic cliffs, pinetrees and pristine beaches, it is easy to see why people have been drawn to the region for thousands of years. The rugged landscape consists of picturesque granite rock formations and Eastern White Pine trees, which are characteristic of the area and served as inspiration for the Group of Seven’s famous landscape paintings.
