In the hands of the same family since 1949, this property has been lovingly developed and cared for over 50 years. It includes the original family home and parents home connected by a three-car garage and link rooms on either side of the garage. Renowned architects were used throughout. The original house was built in 1964 and was designed by René Welter; it has a lakeside balcony that feels like a tree house. The Japanese wing and garage were added in the 1980's and were designed by Peter Rose. Finally the 'new house', designed by Nick Garrison, was added on the other side of the garage in 1991. Workmanship and quality are unusual. The 'new House' is solid maple inside. The loft bedroom is outstanding with beautiful views of the lake. The slate-floored, wooden-trussed garage with a clearstory doubles as a party room with sit down space for about 50 people.
The Japanese wing includes a cedar Japanese bath and shower, a separate bathroom with sink and toilet, plenty of cupboard space, and a full tatami room, which looks out to a Japanese garden and the lake. This room can be used to sleep up to ten people but is also a perfect meditative and yoga space.
The owners have donated the land up the mountain behind the house to Conservation Manitou, under Canada's Ecological Gifts Program. It will therefore be forever persevered as parkland. The landscaping is very natural and there is a small pond outside the original house's en suite bathroom.
