Gastown is a national historic site in Vancouver, British Columbia, located at the northeast end of Downtown. It adopted its name from the famous “Gassy” Jack Deighton, a Yorkshire seaman, steamboat captain and barkeep who arrived in 1867 to open the area’s first saloon bar.
Being Vancouver’s original downtown core, Gastown is rich with history and has a plethora of spectacular, brick walled & wood beamed residential buildings. Currently home to loads of trendy clothing stores, cocktail lounges, some of the cities best restaurants and interior design stores, Gastown has become one of Vancouver’s most desirable neighbourhoods to live in.
Formerly bordered on the northwest by the Canadian Pacific Railway, the McLennan and McFeely Building, now known as Koret Lofts, was the Vancouver base for the large-scale importer and distributor of hardware and building supplies of the same name. Designed by architect, Edward Evans Blackmore, originally built in 1909 and renovated in 2006, this live/work building is home to some of the largest and most character filled homes in Vancouver’s downtown. The zoning in each unit allows for the operation of corporate offices, artist studios or even coffee shops. Sandblasted exposed brick, large wooden beams, original wood flooring and vaulted ceilings are some of the features that make the suites at Koret Lofts truly one of a kind.
This loft itself is absolutely a unique and rare find, not only to the building but to the city. Being one of the largest lofts in the downtown and spanning over two floors, the unit has been meticulously designed to offer great living & work space depending on your preference. Custom features special to this loft are original fir flooring, three sleeping areas, three full baths, hot water radiant heating along with amazingly restored, vintage radiators true to the building. Upgraded 200 amp power, full kitchen on the second level, a second kitchen roughed in on the main & big timber beams. You’ll also have direct access to a relaxing courtyard.
