Real estate in Central Saanich is surrounded by a lively, active community located on B.C.’s picturesque Vancouver Island, just a half hour outside of Victoria. The first European settlers in the area now known as Central Saanich arrived in 1855. Several homes of some of the area’s original settlers are still standing today, including the Lidgate Cabin, dating back to 1858.

Today the town of Central Saanich is home to several unique heritage landmarks. Newman Farm, built in 1897 operated as a family-run cattle farm for over one hundred years, and the magnificent 6.6-hectare property now serves as a public park. Visitors to the park can admire two of the original boathouses on the property, as well as direct access to the tranquil waters of Ferguson Cove. The stunning Butterfield Park is home to the historic Butterfield House, built in 1890, surrounded by picturesque gardens and landscaping.

Central Saanich also offers some of the area’s most scenic hiking trails. The popular Mount Newton Trail is ideal for walking, biking, and horseback riding among majestic Gerry Oak and Fir trees. At Oak Haven Park, a fifteen-minute hike to the top of the park’s hill offers spectacular views of the Saanich Inlet and Sidney and James Islands. Browns’ Wood Trail, located on the southern slopes of Mount Newton, boasts one of the island’s most pristine forest landscapes, while the Gowlland Tod Provincial Park features over 25 km of multi-use trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.

Along with endless outdoor options, Central Saanich’s Panorama Recreation Center features multiple pools, a waterslide, two skating arenas, a yoga studio, tennis courts, and more, and is host to a variety of cultural programs including classes in art, music, cooking and dance. The annual Brentwood Bay Festival includes live music, a parade, and a wide variety of local vendors, while the Music in the Park event, which showcases local talent, takes place at Pioneer Park.
