Prince’s Island was named after a lumberman from Quebec who founded the Eau Claire Lumber Mill in Calgary in 1886. The lumber mill dug a channel (now the lagoon) to get logs from Kananaskis closer to the Calgary sawmill, resulting in an island.

It is now a beautiful urban park area right in downtown Calgary and has a long list of features including, picnic areas, pathways and trails, dog parks, playgrounds, outdoor skating on the lagoon, cross-country skiing, water fountains and plays host to many festivals and events.
