Laundry rooms are infamous for being cramped and untidy; however, with a bit of TLC, they can be clean, organized and designer-worthy as every other room in the house. If you’re looking for new inspiration for organizing your laundry room, these tips can help you save precious space and time.

Here are 10 tips to help you organize your laundry room:

1. Cut down on laundry time with an organized method for pre-sorting clothes. If space is available, add three laundry hampers (colour-coded or labelled) for whites, lights and darks;

2. For those elusive socks, keep another basket handy for strays. Reunite all items with their owners each week. A catchall holds loose change, popped buttons, or whatever else is in pockets;

3. Store all cleaning supplies in a carry-all caddy or open-top storage container. A separate caddy with stain spray, a scrub brush, and a bleach pen is a one-stop shop for maintenance—and easy to grab and carry;

4. Vertical space is often overlooked in these rooms. Install a retractable clothesline or buy an inexpensive freestanding drying rack;

5. Put together kits for minor sewing repairs, shoe care, clothing storage and set them within easy reach on the lowest shelf;

6. Decant detergent – a clear container makes it easier to see when you’re running low than a cardboard box does;

7. A stacked European-style washer-dryer set economizes space;

8. A pair of canvas bags for dry cleaning makes for easy transport. You can also insert your contact information in clear luggage tags to streamline drop-offs at the cleaner;

9. Designate a work surface— a foldout shelf, a built-in counter, or a small table—and keep it clear when not in use; and

10. An iPod- friendly radio and some flowers will make your time in the laundry room more enjoyable.
